Edit Profile vs Seller Account — Step-by-Step Explanation
This is one of the most common points of confusion, so here’s a clean breakdown of how it actually works.
1. What happens after signup?
When a user registers on your platform:
-
They are created as a Buyer (normal user) by default
-
They can log in and use the platform (browse, request, purchase)
At this stage, they are NOT a Seller
2. What is “Edit Profile”?
After login, users can go to Edit Profile and update:
-
Name
-
Phone number
-
Other personal details
This section is only for basic user information
Important:
- Editing profile does NOT give seller access
- It does NOT allow listing creation
3. How does a user become a Seller?
To sell or provide services, the user must:
Create a Seller Account (Store)
- This is a separate step and is NOT done automatically.
- Users need to visit: <your_domain>/a/create-account
Example: https://beauty.tradly.co/a/create-account
4. What happens after creating a Seller Account?
Once the account (store) is created, the user becomes a Seller and can:
-
Add listings → /a/add-listing
-
Manage account → /a/my-account
-
Provide services or sell products
-
Edit store/account details
5. Full User Flow (Simple View)
-
Signup → User becomes Buyer
-
Edit Profile → Update personal info only
-
Create Account → User becomes Seller
-
Add Listing → Start selling
6. Important Clarification
-
Signup alone is NOT enough to sell
-
Edit Profile is NOT related to selling
-
Seller access only comes after creating a seller account
7. Best Practice (Recommended Setup)
To avoid confusion for your users:
-
Add a “Start Selling” button in your header or footer
-
Link it to /a/create-account
-
Guide users clearly during onboarding
Final Note
There is no automatic seller setup in this flow.
Users must take action to become Sellers.
Keeping this separation clear will help your marketplace run smoothly without issues in listings, commissions, or service flows.
